Xiaomi was making headlines in the IT world, but it was still a relatively obscure brand in India, despite its deep-rooted geek culture. Xiaomi began operations in India in a tiny one-room office with two team members in 2014, with the goal of making Mi India the country’s most popular brand. With so many well-known brands on the market, it felt like an unachievable dream. Team Mi India put in a lot of effort and in a short amount of time, we became one of the most popular and trusted brands in the country.
For the past 14 quarters, Apple has been the number one smartphone brand.
We were one of the early adopters of the game-changing Make in India initiative in 2015, less than a year after launching operations in India. We’re delighted to say that India produces 99 percent of our smartphones and 100 percent of our smart TVs. We’ve been working with partners like Foxconn, Flex, Dixon, and more recently Radiant, DBG, and BYD to accomplish our Make in India targets and to realise our ambition of converting India into a global manufacturing hub.
