About HactoberFest Event

Recently, Digital Ocean launched HactoberFest 2021, the 8th edition of HactoberFest. It is an annual open-source festival held in October to encourage individuals all over the world to actively participate in and contribute to open source projects hosted on GitHub and GitLab.

In fact, Hacktoberfest 2020 had attracted 169,886 participants and 116,361 participating open source repositories, representing 135 countries.

From October 1 through October 31, you may simply register here and begin contributing to any participating open source project. Additionally, if you reach DigitalOcean’s contribution criteria, you’ll receive a Hacktoberfest t-shirt!

Hacktoberfest is a great resource for technology companies looking to increase participation in their open-source projects.

Hacktoberfest 2021 Rules & Important Guidelines

The following are the rules for Hacktoberfest 2021:

  • Make significant contributions. Simple contributions, such as changing text files or making disruptive modifications, will be flagged as “invalid” by the open-source project’s Maintainer. If your merged pull request is tagged as invalid, it won’t count toward the four you need to finish.
  • Prizes are awarded only to merged pull requests. Make careful to respond to review comments and integrate your pull requests.
  • The tag “hacktoberfest” will cause problems for participating repositories. This can be found on the open-source project’s problems page.
  • Examine the project’s guidelines and open issues before making a contribution. This is to guarantee that the format of your pull requests is consistent with the Project’s objectives.
  • After completing four merged pull requests, DigitalOcean will send you an email with a form asking for your address and other information in order to give the prize.
  • Your prize will be delivered between mid-November 2021 and the end of January 2022, depending on your location. This competition is available to people from all over the world.
