Surge Internship Programme organized by IIT Kanpur is a great initiative to upskill millions of students and provide them real time research experience and this internship is very informative and knoledgeable. Surge Programme is excellent Research Based Programme and provides students an opportunity to interact with IIT Professors and industry experts and mentors and to learn with them.

About Surge Internship Programme – IIT Kanpur Internship

Summer internships are available at IIT Kanpur through the Students-Undergraduate Research Graduate Excellence (SURGE) programme. The programme began in 2006 with the goal of focusing research projects and pushing students’ intellectual capacities beyond what they could achieve in the classroom. SURGE Internship Program 2022 has been converted to an online mode due to COVID-19. The programme is open to UG students from IITK and other partnering Indian institutes, as well as students from Nepal and Bangladesh. For the next summer of 2022, a maximum of 04 students from NEPAL + BHUTAN may be allowed to participate in the SURGE programme. On a limited sponsorship basis, the SURGE Program will be offered to students from other countries.

Under the Students-Undergraduate Research Graduate Excellence (SURGE) program, students from IITK and other participating institutions undertake short duration, but focused research projects and push their intellectual abilities beyond those driven by the classroom.

Duration Of This Surge Internship Programme

The duration of the program is approximately 8 weeks. The SURGE-2022 Program is tentatively scheduled to be held from 13^th May, 2022 till 14^th July, 2022.

Surge Internship For Other Countries-

Eligibility Criteria

(i) B.Tech/BE/B-Arch/BS (3rd year completed),

(ii) Five year degree program (3rd year completed, 4th year completed)

(iii) B.Sc/B.A. (2nd year completed)

Documents Required

Before filling out the online application form, students should have the following items on hand.

A recent passport photo of no more than 1MB in jpg format.
A single PDF file of no more than 3 MB in size including
- A research proposal of 500 words or less.
- The Most Up-to-Date Transcript.
A single PDF file of no more than 1 MB containing a letter of recommendation from any academic member of the applicant’s institute.
A single PDF file of no more than 1 MB including two letters of recommendation from any academic member of the applicant’s institute.

Note: There is no fixed format for the recomendation letter under this category but the letter should be on the applicants’ institute letter head or the respective faculty member’s letter head undersigned by that concerned faculty member who is familiar with your academic work. Surge Office will directly contact the recommenders for verification of recommendation letters.

SURGE for Non IITK Indian Students:

Eligibility Criteria

(i) B.Tech/BE/B-Arch/BS (3rd year completed),

(ii) Five year degree program (3rd year completed, 4th year completed)

(iii) B.Sc/B.A. (2nd year completed)

(iv) M.Sc. 2-Year (1st year completed)

A research proposal of no more than 500 words is required.
Transcript as of now.
A single PDF file of no more than 1 MB containing a letter of recommendation from any academic member of the applicant’s institute.
A single PDF file of no more than 1 MB including two letters of recommendation from any academic member of the applicant’s institute.

SURGE for IITK at IIT Kanpur:

Eligibility Criteria

(i) B.Tech/BS (2nd,3rd year completed),

(ii) Dual Degree (2nd, 3rd, 4th year),

(iii) M.Sc. 2-Year (1st year)

Documents Required

A recent passport photo of no more than 1MB in jpg format.
A single PDF file of no more than 3 MB in size including
- A research proposal of 500 words or less.
- The most recent transcript.
Two signed recommendation letters from professors, as per the accompanying link’s format. Letter of Recommendation
One signed letter of mentor certification from the professor, in the format provided in the attachment. Mentor issued a certificate.

Note: This year the condition of submitting two Letter of Recommendations to complete the online application form is relaxed. This year SURGE participants can submit only one letter of recommendation. While applying online candidate can put recommender one details in recommender two and complete the online application form.

Surge Office will directly contact the recommenders for verification of recommendation letters.
