SURGE 2023, a technical summer Internship Program organized by IIT Kanpur, India, is back again with an abundance of exciting opportunities for students and professionals. One of the key highlights of the Programme is the IIT Kanpur Internship Program, offering students a chance to work with the tech giant and gain valuable experience.
What is Surge 2023 IIT Kanpur Internship?
The SURGE program, Students-Undergraduate Research Graduate Excellence, provides students from IITK and participating institutions a unique opportunity to challenge their intellectual abilities through focused research projects. These projects offer an intensive 8-week period to delve deeper into a chosen field and build research skills. The program aims to cultivate a passion for knowledge and discovery beyond the constraints of traditional classroom learning.
SURGE IIT Kanpur Eligibility
1. SURGE for SARC Countries:
UG students from SARC countries can also take part in the SURGE program (NEPAL & BHUTAN). For the internship in the summer of 2023, only four students from SARC countries are allowed to take part in the SURGE program. The chosen candidates will get a scholarship worth Rs. 12,500/-, which will cover their travel costs (up to Rs. 10,000/- or as much as they actually cost) and administrative costs. On January 16, 2023, people will be able to find out more (tentatively).
Here are the requirements for students from SARC countries to be able to apply for a summer internship at IIT Kanpur at the time the internship starts:
(i) B.Tech/BE/B-Arch/BS (3rd year completed),
ii) Degrees that take five years (3rd year completed, 4th year completed)
(iii) B.Sc/B.A. (2nd year completed)
Students who want to apply must fill out the online form.
Before they fill out the online application form, students should have the following:
- A recent photo the size of a passport in the.jpg format and no more than 1MB in size.
- A single.pdf file that is no bigger than 3 MB and contains
The proposal for research can’t be longer than 500 words.
(ii)Current Transcript.
- A single.pdf file with no more than 1 MB that has a letter of recommendation from a faculty member at the applicant’s institute.
- A single.pdf file that is no bigger than 1 MB and has two letters of recommendation from faculty at the applicant’s school.
2. SURGE for Non-IITK Indian Students:
Under this program, non-IITK students can apply to work at IIT Kanpur during the summer.
Here are the requirements for Non-IITK students to be eligible for an internship at the time it starts:
(i) B.Tech/BE/B-Arch/BS (3rd year completed),
(ii) Degrees that take five years (3rd year completed, 4th year completed)
(iii) B.Sc/B.A. (2nd year completed)
iv) Two-Year M.Sc (1st year completed)
Students who want to apply must fill out the online form.
Before filling out the online application form, the students should make sure they have the following:.
- A recent photo the size of a passport in the.jpg format and no more than 1MB in size.
- A single.pdf file that is no bigger than 3 MB and contains
- (i) The proposal for research can’t be longer than 500 words.
- (ii) Current Transcript.
- A single.pdf file with no more than 1 MB that has a letter of recommendation from a faculty member at the applicant’s institute.
- A single.pdf file that is no bigger than 1 MB and has two letters of recommendation from faculty at the applicant’s school.
Note: There is no set format for the recommendation letter in this category, but it should be on the letterhead of the applicant’s institution or the letterhead of the faculty member who knows your academic work. It should also be signed by the faculty member. Surge Office will get in touch with the recommenders directly to confirm the letters of recommendation.
3. SURGE for IIT Kanpur (IITK) students:
Under this program, IITK students can work with an IITK mentor of their choice. To finish the application, the student needs to find a professor who is willing to be his or her mentor during the summer internship, as well as a good project to work on for the eight weeks of summer.
The following are the requirements for IITK students to be eligible for an internship at the time it starts:
(i) B.Tech/BS (2nd,3rd year completed),
(ii) Dual Degree (2nd, 3rd, 4th year),
(iii) M.Sc. 2-Year (1st year)
Students who want to apply must fill out the online form.
Before they fill out the online application form, students should have the following:
- A recent photo the size of a passport in the.jpg format and no more than 1MB in size.
- A single.pdf file that is no bigger than 3 MB and contains
- (i) The proposal for research can’t be longer than 500 words.
- (ii) Current Transcript.
- (iii) One letter signed by the professor certifying them as a mentor, in the format shown in the link below. From Mentor, a certificate.
NOTE:
(a) Letter of Recommendation (LOR) is not required for IITK participants. However, the names of two possible referees (IITK Faculty) must be listed on the application form so that they can be checked as needed.
b) Participants in IITK can’t do both the SUMMER COURSE and the SURGE-2023 PROJECT at the same time. But participants whose CPI is more than or equal to 8.5 can take one SUMMER COURSE along with the SURGE-2023 PROJECT.
